Licensed as a real estate broker 1979, David has been an active real estate professional for thirty years. Licensed Massachusetts Real Estate Instructor Real Estate Appraisal David is licensed as a Massachusetts Certified Residential Appraiser. David has operated Northampton Appraisal Associates since 1980. Northampton Appraisal provides real estate appraisal to mortgage lenders and other professionals in the Greater Northampton area. First appointed by Governor Weld, David served for eight years as a member of the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Real Estate Appraisers and was twice elected Chairman of the Board of Registration. David also spent eight years as a member of the Board of Assessors for the City of Northampton, and has been designated a Massachusetts Accredited Assessor by the Massachusetts Association of Assessing Officers. Civic Activities Since 2006 David has served as an elected member of the Northampton City Council. His subcommittee memberships include Finance, Capital Improvements, and Public Safety. David is also the City of Northampton's elected member of the Board of Smith Charities. Since 1850 Smith Charities has distributed funds under the terms of the Will of Oliver Smith to students, widows, nurses, tradespersons, and other qualified individuals. David serves as President of the Childs Park Foundation, the private nonprofit corporation that operates Childs Park. The Childs Park, located across from Cooley Dickinson Hospital on North Elm Street in Northampton, features 36 acres of formal gardens, manicured lawns, and reflecting pools for the quiet enjoyment of Northampton residents. From 1980-2000 David worked in the television industry as a freelance sound engineer. In 1996 David was awarded an Emmy by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for his work with ESPN.
